Life Changes…

S:

Ephesians 5:15-16
Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity,
(Today’s New International Version – TNIV)

O: Different versions use a fairly different word in this verse, but the over-arching meaning is quite similar. The two words are “live” and “walk”. The general idea from this phrase is that you need to keep aware of how you are coming across to everyone that you come in contact with. The idea of “living” among and “walking” among other people is one that we can condition ourselves to forget about, when we become so concerned and focused on our situation and circumstances.

A:

I should apologize at this point; my posts may be somewhat sporadic over the next couple of months as I endeavor to deal with an extended family situation. It has already deterred my focus to a certain degree, and consequently this post is a few hours later than normal. We have entered into the early stages of sorting out an extended family dynamic that has me somewhat distracted from my standard life processes. However, this is a marriage post, so what does the one have to do with the other. I would recommend two directives, one for husbands and one for wives: To the husbands, realize that your mind thinks faster than it talks in these kinds of situations, so take care to keep your wife, your biggest support system, clearly informed and up to date with what you are thinking (think to long without talking, and eventually, you will leave your wife behind)…keep talking; to the wives, don’t be afraid to keep asking questions about what is happening, what has been communicated to your husband by others. Make the most of this opportunity to talk about the wider issues, about how you would like to be treated in the future, and how you would like to look after each other as you grow older. How you treat each other in these new times of change will say a lot to those around you about how your marriage can help you work through tough decisions as a team. Make the most of every opportunity as a marriage team.

P:

Lord, help us to work as a team regardless of what we are facing. Amen.
