Protecting Our Minds…

…But Which Mind?
This post forms some the fundamental basis for this blog as a whole. Scripture should form all of the foundation and basis for our actions as Christians. Granted, there are a myriad of questions that are not answered directly from scripture, however, scriptural principles should form the basis of any and all answers.
S: 2Cor 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

O: Deception has the same origin now as it did at the creation of the world…the serpent, Devil; and his tactics are the same…trying to get believers to see what appeals to them on the fleshly level as complete and total satisfaction; and his end desire is the same…to try and get us to take our eyes/focus off of Christ; it is our minds that have to be protected, because that is what so easily leads us astray.

A: The only way to really keep our minds focused and on track is to discipline ourselves in three areas: 1) Reading the scriptures daily; there are lots of ways to do this, find one that fits you and your time schedule at that stage of your life; it doesn’t have to be complicated or lengthy or in-depth…just read something from the Bible every day…something is better than nothing. 2) Train yourself to pray…or better, have conversations wtih God; talk with him as a friend or counsellor; the more comfortable you are talking with Him, the more likely and easily it is going to happen that you will hear back from Him. 3) Find an accountability partner…someone of the same sex, who will check in on you; who isn’t afraid to ask hard questions, questions that you really don’t want to answer, but need to answer for your own good and growth…but someone who isn’t going to judge you harshly or negatively (in a negative sense). What I mean by that is that you have an accountability partner/couple who are willing to call you out on a negative attitude or action, without berating or belittling you. Eventually, you should be able to hear God’s voice as your accountability partner because you have spent time listening to your spouse and your friends.
It is easy for any/all of us to use our unprotected mind to rationalize/justify any action that we set our mind to; this is how all of the evil in the world is perpetrated, but justifying the actions using our flawed reasoning. Without the protection of God and His word, constantly being taken into our minds, we are susceptible to whatever tickles our fancy, from starting affairs, to subjugation of an entire race. God’s Word is important in helping us protect our minds.

P: Lord, I pray that you will help me to continue on the path/discipline that I have started; reading your word, thinking about it, and praying to you on a constant basis. Amen.
