Peace Has Come!

Yes, this is going to be a double posting today; highly unusual for me, and really it offends my sense of schedule, orderliness, consistency, …ok, everything, but I really thought I wanted to get this out before Christmas.

Yes, the title is stolen from a sermon that I heard yesterday, and yes, the sermon was spot on, but as usual, my mind takes off in a different direction. The sermon was focused around the coming of Christ, and how He shows what God is like, what God wants to do for us, and how, if we follow God’s design, we will have peace in our lives…to loosely paraphrase.

Of course, the direction my mind takes is that of our own lives. There are so few places that we really have control that we often feel like we have no peace in our lives. As I look at our own situation, my wife is really struggling right now with forced job changes that are making her primary job so much more difficult for her, and I am sure she is not alone. Whether it is changes to jobs, changes to life circumstances, changes to family situations, or changes that really don’t affect us, and yet we can’t stop thinking about them, we feel like we are under stress…and really that stress is the opposite of peace.

But of course, my mind goes to our marriages, and my thinking is that this is the one area of our lives where we can have peace. Now, before I go down in a flaming ball of fire, hear me out. I can hear some of you shouting that I can’t control her, and she will not listen to me. And that may be true, but you can decide to control you, and if you are doing what God has called you to do as a husband, then the rest is up to Him, and He will not leave you twisting in the wind. “Some of the best marriages have had deep struggles in the past, but God can work miracles when given the opportunity.” …stolen from Marriage Works. Just remember, and this is quite likely the hardest part…there is no timeline on God’s schedule, and that, for many of us, just seems so unfair.

My wife and I have both noticed that the closer we are sexually, the less everything else seems to affect us. We obviously have the same issues and concerns, but it just seems like when we are having regular “together sessions”, it seems to put us closer together mentally, emotionally and psychologically….in other words, Peace has arrived!

Blessings, K
